The Event
Global Federal Credit Union brought me in for their holiday party in December 2024 at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in downtown Seattle. About 200 guests. They wanted close-up magic during the reception and a stage show after dinner.
The Reception
I worked the room while people mingled. Small groups, magic in their hands, no one stuck watching from the back. It gets people talking to each other before the main show even starts.
The Show
The stage show was built for laughs first. It got a lot of them.
One moment stood out. I asked the whole room to think of their favorite book. Then I asked anyone who already had one clearly in mind to raise a hand. A woman in the crowd put hers up. I never asked her the title. Instead, I started describing images and scenes from the book she was thinking of, one detail at a time. Then I named the book. She confirmed it in front of 200 coworkers.
When the Tech Broke
The venue had technical problems during the event. Live events do that. I kept the show moving and got a bunch of laughs out of it while they got it fixed.
